All That Theatre is bringing Sam Shepard's darkly comic American classic to Newcastle.
Aspiring screenwriter Austin is house-sitting in suburban Southern California, quietly working on the screenplay he hopes will impress a bigshot Hollywood producer. Then his older brother Lee, a desert-dwelling drifter, thief and general menace, stubles through the door. When Lee pitches his own trashy Western to Austin's producer, a vicious, darkly funny battle for success, identity and control follows.
Sam Shepard's True West is a volatile modern classic about sibling rivalry, masculinity, ambition, creativity and the destructive ways we become the people we hate most.
