Boro and Sashiko Workshop - Create a unique Place Mat or Cushion Cover

About

Choose your background colour (beige, blue or black linen, subject to availability), followed by embellishing patches (made up from my collection of vintage and new Japanese cotton, silk and linen fabrics) plus maximum four different colours embroidery threads and start stitching away.

Learn about the ancient Japanese technique of Sashiko while being aware of principles such as up-cycling, respect for the discarded and slow stitching process to practice mindfulness and relaxation.

The kit included in the workshop contains either a ready made linen place mat (47cm x 34cm or 2 pieces (40cm x 40cm) of linen/linen blend fabric, fusible weft interfacing, fabric patches, embroidery thread and an embroidery needle. Option to purchase extra kits and supplies available at the venue.

The hand-stitching in class is beginner-friendly. The place mat needs no further work, the back of the cushion comes with a ready inserted zipper so that the project can easily be completed at home, either with a sewing machine or sewn by hand.

Please bring a pair of fabric scissors and some sharp pins and create your own master piece.
